This is not the dead tree I am talking about, only illustrating how kernel is retrieved. This could be a tree on which the tent was hanging on Feb 1, 1959.
This is a kernel from a living tree and even here the circles are hard to read.
Common knowledge is that the number of circles is the age of the tree.
The kernel from the fallen tree is rotten. But I don't need to count the circles to know that it was big (11 m high)
Kernel from the fallen tree. What I need to know is when it fell. I am now looking for a laboratory to do C14 dating which I have been told can determine the year when the tree died.
Searching with a metal detector the grounds under the fallen tree.
The trees have faces. I have no idea what the thing sticking out from the left is.
The location of the tin can before we started digging
You can see the fallen tree on this photo taken in 1963 by Yakimenko's expedition 1963
