Night at the Dyatlov Pass

12-12-2024

We invite you to join a unique winter expedition to the Dyatlov Pass January 27 - February 6, 2025.
It should be noted that this is already the third winter expeditionary trip with an overnight stay on the north-eastern slope of Mount "Kholat Syakhl".
A distinctive feature of this winter's event will be the installation of an original tent - a replica, made in size and corresponding to the characteristics as close as possible to the tent that Igor Dyatlov's group had. As part of a group of experienced travelers and experts in the investigation of the events that took place in the area of Mount Kholat Syakhl, you will:

  • spend a night on the slope of Mount Kholat Syakhl in a replica of the Dyatlov group's tent
  • visit the top of Mount Kholat Syakhl
  • go down to the infamous cedar and stream
  • take part in experiments
  • in favorable weather conditions, visit Mount Otorten
  • enjoy the grandeur and beauty of the nature of the Northern Urals
  • meet representatives of the indigenous Mansi people

Departure from Yekaterinburg, we drive 600 km to the village of Vizhay Sverdlovsk region. The group spends the night at "Chistop" tour base

Jan28

Departure on the route. In the coming 2025, it was decided to carry out the transfer of the group along the route Vizhay settlement - Ilyich's hut by transport, this will be either GAZ 66 shift bus, or Buran snowmobiles dragging cargo sleds. It will be decided taking in account the amount of snow, whether the GAZ 66 will be able to pass or not. We need to cover about 90 km.

Jan29

We set off on a hiking and skiing ascent to the Dyatlov Pass. On this day, we need to walk about 15 km. We spend the night in a heated expedition tent.

Jan30

The group reaches the Dyatlov Pass. Setting up a mountain camp on the north-eastern slope of Mount Kholat Syakhl in the supposed location of the discovery of Igor Dyatlov's group's tent. On this day we need to hike about 10 km. It should be noted that the weather conditions in this place are very harsh, strong wind and low temperatures, so the entire group must harmoniously carry out the responsible work of setting up the camp. At this stage, the expedition leader clearly assigns roles to each participant and determines the stages of completing the tasks.

The main camp is set up on the slope. At the same time, the group members make radial trips to the cedar region, to the top of Mount Kholat Syakhl, and, if the weather conditions are favorable, make a radial hike to Otorten. Experiments with snow cover are conducted.

Feb4

The group returns to Ilyich's hut (25 km). Overnight stay, Russian bathhouse (sauna), rest.

Feb5

Hiking along the Lozva River with snowmobile support. Visiting landmark places for the Dyatlov group's documented route, the mouth of the Auspiya River, 2nd Northern village, rocky outcrops where the Dyatlov group took pictures, a view of Mount Khoy-Ekva. Arrival in the Mansi village of Ushma. Overnight stay in Valery Anyamov's guest house.

Feb6

The group leaves by transport (GAZ 66 or snowmobiles) to Vizhay. Arrival at the Chistop tourist base. Summing up the expedition, dinner, Russian bathhouse (sauna), rest.

Feb7

The group leaves for Yekaterinburg.

The price for the expedition is 59 000 rubles which is roughly €550. This includes the trip starting from Yekaterinburg. I personally purchased my round trip Vienna-Yekaterinburg-Vienna + visa for about €1000. You have to suit up for -40°C. Renting ski for the whole expedition costs €30-35 but skis are not mandatory for the trip. While walking on the frozen river bed you follow the track of the snowmobiles, and on the top of the mountain the snow firn is packed and hard.

Serious inquiries only please.
